Here are some simple ways to protect yourself online:

  1. Do not give out your last or family name, your home address or your phone number in chat rooms or bulletin boards.
  2. If someone is asking this information from you or is making you feel uncomfortable, report them. Use the Contact Us form or see the Anointed Youth forum reporting options.
  3. Never tell anyone your password, not even a close friend.
  4. If you and that person stop being friends (and we hope you don't :)), they will have access to your personal information and could pretend to be you.
  5. Always look at a website's privacy policy to see what they do with the information they collect from you - especially your email address and name. See Anointed Youth's Privacy policy.
  6. If you are under 18, surf the internet with your parents or at least let your parents know what sites you visit so they can check them out and make sure they are safe.
  7. If you are under 13 then read the site's COPPA listing so that you understand what you can and cannot do. See Anointed Youth's Coppa.
  8. If a site makes you uncomfortable or asks for something you don't want to share, leave the site. There are usually numerous other sites with the same thing you are looking for that won't make you uncomfortable.
