This question is one of the most asked questions in our human existence.
Man has created many ideas and philosophies to answer the unknown question
of what lies beyond this world, while Many people just simply belief
that this world is all there is. When I was a kid, I remember how greatly
this question concerned me. I would say in my head, “Life is
life” In other words this is it! There is No one out there, and
when we die it is all over. This thought scared the pants off of me
as a young boy. I did not grow up in a Church going family, so I did
not have the Christian background I needed to properly understand life
and death. Maybe some of you can relate to what I am saying.
Not understanding life from God’s point of view can
be very frightening. I have looked in my dad’s casket, my brother’s
casket and my mother’s casket, all before the age of twenty-two.
Looking in on your loved ones, the thought does cross your mind: “Are
they just wiped out from all existence, or are they enjoying an afterlife
of some kind?” It brings you to think about your own death and
just what exactly is beyond this world. It can also place a huge burden
of fear, worry and uncertainty on your shoulders. However, we do not
have to live our lives in constant fear, wonder and uncertainty about
death, but we can know what lies beyond this world.
God put the answer to this question in his word, the Bible.
It is a known fact that we are all going to die. Hebrews 9:27 says, “And
as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” What
is beyond this world is the judgment seat of God, where every one of
us will stand before our God. This is recorded for us in:
Revelation 20:12: “And I saw the dead, small and great,
stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened,
which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things
which were written in the books, according to their works. And the
sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered
up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according
to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of
fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written
in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
As you stand before God, the books will be open and
your life will be seen clearly in these books. All your sins will be
listed and none will be left out. And then an another book will be
opened, which is the book of life. The book of life contains all the
names of those who have repented of their sins and placed their faith
Jesus and what did on the cross for them. If your name is not written
there, you will be cast into the like of fire where you will burn forever
for your sins.
However, there is good news for us. We do not have
to live our lives in constant fear, as I did when I was a young boy.
We can know what lies beyond this world. If you know Jesus, it is a
place called heaven and we will be with all our saved loved ones and
with our Lord Jesus Christ. Death is not something for us to fear or
wonder about. The Bible says in Psalm 116:15, “Precious in the
sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.”
Are you a Saint of God? Have you been forgiven of your sins?
Is your name written in the book of life, by repenting of your sins
and putting your faith in Jesus? If you answered yes to those questions,
then it will be a precious thing when you die. If you answered no,
then you are not ready to die. You need to be willing to turn from
your sins. Then you need place your faith and trust in what Jesus did
for you on the cross and receive him as your lord and savoir. For help
