Answer:
Hey there!
You know, your question was not at all a surprising one. So many believing youth today are asking the same questions. There are two discussions going on within the forum that would be good for you to check out.
1) Secular Music - http://forum.anointedyouth.org/show...highlight=music
2) Piercings - http://forum.anointedyouth.org/showthread.php?t=403
Okay, now to answer your questions...these are all based on my own personal convictions and beliefs...
I believe that it is extremely important for each one of us to established and develop convictions based on our personal relationship with the Lord and communion with the Holy Spirit. For me, I don't believe that body piercings are a sin within themselves. I believe that there should be limits to anything we do, but the main concern that I have when a young person desires to pierce themselves is, WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVE FOR DOING SO? Are you desiring to fit in? Please others? Get attention? Some months ago I myself contemplated getting my nose pierced. I decided against it, but not because I felt any conviction. I realized that there are many things that we may be permitted to do, without "sinning." BUT, should not my desire be to go above and beyond what is acceptable and pemissable? I want to push the limits of expectation. Does that make sense? I want to go beyond the acceptable!
As far as secular music goes, the question should not be whether or not it is okay to listen to it. Rather, what you should ask yourself anytime you listen to music, be it Christian or not, is whether or not the music you listen to builds you up. There are bands labeled "Christian" that do nothing for my spiritual life. They are fun to listen to and I do enjoy them, but they are not directly building up my spirit man. Your main objective in anything you do on earth should be to please God. I desire to live a life that glorifies Him, therefore, I choose to listen to music that glorifies Him.
Like I stated in the beginning, these are things that you will have to set your own limits for. My wlak is not your walk...neither my convictions yours. Just ask God to guide you in all that you do, and trust that He will! It is also wise to discuss these things with an older, more mature believer (such as a parent, mentor, or pastor/youth pastor).
I hope that helped you some as you continue to walk the path placed before you. A little tidbit concerning music...
About 25-30 years ago, MTV declared that they would take captive a generation! Look around you...would you say that they have succeeded? Satan was the angel of worship before he rebelled. He still uses music to influence people, especially young people! So be on your guard!
