Question:
I know this is a tough question but as a 21 yr old I dont know the answer myself. I am being sued by another kind-of christian that i used to work with. She was a little crazy and always though everyone at our job site was against her in some way. Now she is threatening legal action against me. Now i know the bible says that if you are taken into court and they want your coat give them you tunic as well. If I were not arried i would consider this approach. However she wants my house that i just bought, and i am no longer single I am married so i have my wife to think aobut in this too. I know that this is a little different then the usual questios you get from young adults but I am looking for some insight.
Answer:
Hey,
My name is Joshua and I am a member of the Anointed Youth Advice Team. I do
not believe that you should get to concerned about her threats, until you see
legal documentation that she is indeed suing you. If you have received such documentaion,
then you need to seek professional legal counsel right away. The fact that she
is threating to take your house shows me that she probably has not spoken with
a lawyer and is just trying to terrorize you.
What should you do Biblically? The Bible does not say that you are not entitled
to a fair trial. However, it does say that if you have received a fair trial
and are indeed found guilty then you should pay every penny. Matthew 5:25-26, "Agree
with thine adversary(an opponent in a suit of law ) quickly, whiles thou art
in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge,
and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily
I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid
the uttermost farthing." The Bible say here to try and work something out with
them before it reaches a court trail. I do not believe it means to pay when you
are not yet proven guilty, but it does mean that you should try and work the
situation out and prevent it from reaching the court system. Once it has reached
the court system and you have been proven to be guilty, then you are to pay ever
dime that is owed.
If you find that you are still concerned about her threats, even when legal documentaions
of her threats have not been submitted, then you should speak to a profession
just to clear of your concerns. Many law firms offer free counsel where they
answer your questions and clear up your concerns about a matter. You need to
be praying about this whole matter and submitting into the Lords hands.
Read this Psalm and think on it. Psalm 35:1-10
1 ¶ <> Plead my cause,
O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against
me.
2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.
3 Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say
unto my soul, I am thy salvation.
4 Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be
turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.
5 Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them.
6 Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute
them.
7 For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause
they have digged for my soul.
8 Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid
catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.
9 And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation.
10 All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the
poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him
that spoileth him?
