::Editors Note::

Anointed Youth didn't have to many changes last month as I'm working very hard on the volunteer resource and I have a thousand things going on outside of AY. More help in many areas are definably needed and very much welcome! There are so many new things in the plans that even with the great team of volunteers we have, even a little help is very much appreciated. Especially needed are graphic designers for layouts. If you feel that God is calling you to help, and you want something to do over the summer, please be sure to visit our volunteer signup form and signup!

From all of us at AY have a very happy July 4th! Be careful, but be sure to have lots of fun :).

SPECIAL WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST AY MEMBER - MADISON IVY!

Testimony
: I was raised in a Buddhist home. As I grew up, I knew there was someone always watching over me and keeping me safe. I had surgery when I was 3 and had become deaf, but then was able to hear again with hearing aids. I did not realize it again that someone was watching over me until I entered 5th grade going to Christian Chapel Christian school, a year after my grandma died of a stroke. When I almost drowned 2 years ago in my neighbor’s pool...

From the AY Forum - diamarie

Well,I was never really a Christian when I was a kid.My parent(s) were hindu, and I never understood what my brother was.I went to a Christian primary school(even though my principal was Muslim...This I don't get),and finally graduated and went to a Presbyterian High School. So in many ways,I was educated into Christ, but nothing more than that.I was no more of a Christian than someone who didn't believe in anything..At all...

When I was 10,I got into a really bad social situation with some kids from my school. And I started writing..Really writing...I remember going up to my room, and writing letters to God asking Him to take my life away..And crying myself to sleep every night...I wasn't happy.I wasn't religious either. This lasted for a while, and I started to get into habits that people generally don't do..I mean it was so harsh..

Well anyway, when I got into high school,I realized that I needed something more to keep me going.I was in and out of depression, and my morality, self esteem and confidence were abandoned in a gutter somewhere.Around that time,my dad was diagnosed with a terminal illness;leukemia. We knew then,he may not make it...Over the next two years,I sort of grew close to Christ and God...I'm not even sure how,but it was like I was supposed to be close to Him then, because my father was sick..

I still struggled a lot with these habits, that I didn't care if anything bad happened to me.I began dreaming to die again, and I was so close to taking my life...I don't understand why I didn't do it then...Then,the most terrible thing I could think about happened,my dad died. This shattered any thread of belief I had about God.About then,I began getting close to a friend(who before, was just another face in the crowd),and I don't really understand this either, but I began drawing back to God.

She showed me that everything would work out for those that love God and believe, and I began to be blessed through her.I still crawl back to old habits, and struggle with them, but not as much, and I have more control over them.I'm fighting to get back close to God,and believing in Him again. My past still haunts me,but I get through it..God healed me multiple times, and I'm grateful for it...Everyday..I still fall back sometimes, but I get through it...

Spreading the Word--My Way!
Copyright©
Kat

How exactly can we speak up when all eyes are on us?

Proclaiming the Word of God--easier said than done. At first it may seem like an easy task, but there are a million different outcomes that could result depending on what you say. Based on this, you could make others believe, you could turn them off; you could come across as a true believer or a street show-off. You could save others from their decided fate, or you could be mistaken for a deranged weirdo. The possibilities are endless. Anything can happen through the power of words and suggestion. That's why it is important to send a clear message without coming across as forceful, and just as important is the action to back it up.

In our generation of computers and modern technology, spreading the Word couldn't be any easier. You can adopt an identity online and reach out to hundred of people waiting for the right person to come without having to leave the comforts of your home. You could opt to testify online than handing out leaflets. For many Christians, being in a spot where you publicly profess your faith can be embarrassing if you succumb to peer pressure. But if your heart is in it, there should be nothing to stop you from showing your love of God.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of Christian youth out there refusing to come out into the light, afraid of being labelled and ridiculed by friend and even their own family. This isn't an excuse not to fulfill your calling, though. There are a lot of ways for you to convert others into your faith without sounding boring or--as most would say it--"preachy".

That is probably one of the main reasons non-Christians don't stop and hear us out. The old method of quoting Bible passages and things about salvation won't make sense to a nonbeliever. Therefore, it is important to use generic terms rather than "Christians Only" words that we are accustomed to.

Some things that could help:

1. Act your age. The energy of youth, and the unwavering faith demonstrated in what others would see as a relatively young soul would never fail to impress a non-Christian. Imagine seeing a child of seven proclaiming his love for Jesus. It is in the innocence of children that true love can be seen in its purest form. The same goes for the elderly: Still standing strong in God's love at the age of ninety? It is a well-defined hallmark of years of servitude and faith.

2. Share your story. Everyone's got a story to tell; why not share yours? People are most likely to believe a firsthand account of what Christ actually did in your life than plain statements of His saving grace. This is evident in the popularity of online blogs and journals; it is an effective medium of evangelism.

3. Narrate an example or parable. One thing I have noticed in devotionals I have encountered is that they usually incorporate a story of some sort, much like Jesus' way of teaching the people in His day. Then it is followed by a message from the Bible related to the story, presented in a clear and concise way. It's an effective method; stories grab people's attentions and keep them reading or listening up to the very end.

4. Use generic terms. A non-Christian would get confused with Biblical words. Opt to use layman's terms. Be careful not to use racist or gender-specific words as these may cause misunderstanding and can hurt people's feelings if they think that they are the subject of your wording.

5. Be open about others' religions. Respect their beliefs for them to respect yours. It's a give-and-take relationship; tell them about our wonderful God but never bash theirs in the process. Remember to keep it light and friendly; not everyone can be converted after a one-time meeting. Keep at it, and let the Holy Spirit do the rest.

If you can't, by some reason, do these things in your own community, why not try an online ministry? You can reach out to hundreds--even thousands--of needy unbelievers who need God's grace shed in their lives, all with a click of a mouse. If you're up for it, volunteer here at Anointed Youth for positions you can readily assist with and start changing lives.
